Skunk Catch: Good or bad?

Caught a skunk in a dirt hole for yotes this morning. Shot him in the lungs with the 22 and gave him a minute to expire.

I had him by the back foot and when I went to remove the trap POOF! Little bugger let a little bit of his fart bubbles go.

Now I smell pretty nasty and the areas stunk up really good.

He totally trashed the area and dug a trench around the catch ring.

I remade the dirt hole. I like it because those yotes will see it from a mile off, and smell it from two

My question is did catching this skunk increase or decrease my chances of nabbing one of these dogs? The eye appeal is good but will the stink caution them?

IMO, INCREASE!

Stick another dirt hole in just outside of the catch circle to nab the wary yotes.

Re: Skunk Catch: Good or bad?

Your set just became 10,000 times better! Most of your lures are skunky ie. Violator 7, Gusto etc. The smell will bring them in and the sight of that catch circle get them to the pan. If the smell is to strong it maybe a few days until it wears down a little and it's not blowing thier noses out but it won't hurt you a bit.

Honesty is my only excuse.

Adam- I like that idea. I made this one pretty big and loud, I'll make one out side of the circle that is a little sneakier.

I agree. I also would look around for where the coyotes might be ducking under a log or something and put a blind foothold set in there. They work great...

It is time to manage avian predators!
