So I had a busy morning planned out; check a few fresh coyote sets around 4:30 am, run about 25 miles south to meet the crew in a goose field before 6 am, check some more fox sets after the hunt then get my fur ready for sale.
So I started down the hill toward my two coyote sets which a good friend and great trapper helped me tweek the day before and I see eyes bouncing! Oh yeah coyote im thinking. Load the 22 and keep walking. Well at about 200 yards the eyes are getting closer and closer together, no big deal I'll take a fox. Nope, big mean nasty cat.
Oh well, off to the goose field. We get a truck swamped in the mud and tear up some lawn on the way out but manage to get everything set up and ready to hunt. We had an excellent hunt and had our limit of 30 geese down before 9:30.
Off to check the fox sets. Had a hay set triggered and a couple other set untouched. Near the end of my line I can see something doesn't look right on the trail where I set a cable. As i get closer I see that I scored my first cable grey!! Oh yeah!
Finished checking and headed home to skin and get all my fur togther. Don't have a ton of fur to show for my season but Im proud of what I got!
