Been tough finding suitable trails with no snow but I went ahead and hung a half dozen CR's two days ago. Caught my second red this morning.
The rebar stake was put there after the catch. It's a helpful trick. If anyone would like details feel free to PM me.
First pic before the catch. This was a faint tractor trail where the farmer had been gathering wood last year. I found some old fox sign on it so I drove my truck over it to better define it and make it more inviting for canines to travel.
I placed the CR's right on the hump thinking they'd be looking around as they crested and less likely to be paying attention to immediate surroundings. Fox was caught on the left trail.
The cabled fox left a catch circle that erased about 6-7 feet of the trail. I move the CR about 10 feet to a better defined area of the trail. Now the waiting begins...
I can't tell you how many I've chased around a 15' circle with the butt end of a cuestick. That simple little trick never crossed my mind. I guess I was too focused on the task at hand.....caveman style.
