Spring muskrat season

When was the last year PA had a spring muskrat season?

I didn't make it to the gym today. That makes five years in a row.

Re: Spring muskrat season

I did a quick search on the internet and couldn't come up with an answer. Searching through my age riddled brain, I'm going to say 1972 [about]. I know they were history when the fur boom came in the 1980s. Also I am not too sure we had any following Hurricane Agnes in June of 1972. It was around that time I caught the fox bug bad.

I remember skinning a lot of bitten up 'rats when we had the spring seasons. Males fight savagely to secure females and 'rat teeth are sharp. I was heavily downgraded on my last lot of spring caught rats. A lot of guys got 2.00 or better for theirs. I think I got 1.92. I was a bit peeved.

Old Mink , might be right about 72. I have a old digest from 1970-71 it was still in place. Feb 6 to Mar 7. My next digest is early 80s and it was gone. So defiantly some time in the 1970s.

The day that you tarry is the day that you lose.
Sunshine or thunder, a man will always wonder.
Where the fair wind blows.

Re: Spring muskrat season

I guess the digest would be good proof. I served in the Army from 1965 to 1969. I guess I don't remember too well but I did not think we had a spring season by the time I got out. I really would like to know exactly when it was so if someone out there knows for sure the last season it would be much appreciated.

Re: Spring muskrat season

I have my old licenses back to 69 but for some reason only have digests back to 75-76 There is no spring rat season for that license year. In 75-76 it ran from Nov 27 to Jan 17.

Eh...wot?
