Fox/Skunk Encounter

Caught a red fox this morning that stank bad of skunk. Like he had recently taken a direct hit. Anybody else ever catch one like that?

Eh...wot?

Re: Fox/Skunk Encounter

Are you sure that you were smelling skunk?Male red foxes get to smelling pretty rank this time of the year when they are breeding.I have had some that were in the truck a while that really smell up things.

Re: Fox/Skunk Encounter

It was a skunk Rups. I know the difference between what a fox smells like and skunk essence. This guy had definitely been nailed by a skunk recently.

I just thought it was unusual because it's the first time I've caught a fox that had been sprayed by a skunk and was wondering how often it happens to other trappers. Could be a common occurrence elsewhere as we don't have many skunks around here.

Eh...wot?

Re: Fox/Skunk Encounter

I catch skunks every year but never caught a fox that smelled like one.I`m not a great example thought because I`m not a big numbers guy.

Re: Fox/Skunk Encounter

I shot a raccoon on the first day of the season this year that smelled like skunk too. I was squirrel hunting, and he walked by, so I shot him. DOn't know if he was sick or what. Big guy. He definitely got sprayed.
