basic equipment question

starting to use some cable stakes, and have a bag of swivel hooks to attach cable to trap. How in the heck do you bend them to hold the cable. Pliers weren't cutting it.

the J hook tool yodeldog posted is a good one (actually looks like Ron Marsh's..dont know if he started selling them to FnT or not...but i have one of his and its awesome)

the J hook tool will open and close J hooks...invaluable on the trapline..about the only tool i couldnt do without or find something to do the job..

ive bent and broke cheaper J hook tools...dont think even i can break Ron Marshes..

Re: basic equipment question

Fencing pliers will do it. It's a great tool for the trappers to have. You can use it for a hammer, pliers, cutting wire, pulling staples, closing hooks, etc....

Re: basic equipment question

Have to give a to Ron Marsh who makes these. Ron is a great guy. If you live any where near Oil City, I recommend you go and see him. He has a great selection of supplies. Cutt

Re: basic equipment question

I second ron marsh's from ron's cable shop (he's on here). He may distribute to f&t. I've broken cheaper models on first time uses. I'm not here to kiss up to ron, but his are the only ones you should carry. Simple design, simple use, most importantly DURABLE! I know you can only use one at a time but I think I own close to 6 or 7 of his. I don't want to be without one. I keep on on my side, two in each truck, one in the garage and one in my pack. Extreme I know.... but they aren't going anywhere. Never saw damage to one yet. Be aware, I think there are "copy cat" models out there... I don't know their durablility.

I'll keep my money, guns, ammo, and health care; you can keep your change
