Dirt hole legal?

Can a trap be placed in front of a man made dirt hole? In book, says no trap can be placed within 5 ft of a hole or a den. Does this include or exclude the making of a dirt hole set?

Re: Dirt hole legal?

I would say that you are safe, considering 100% of the trappers on here use a dirt hole set of some degree.
I believe the regulation is refering to the animals hole that they use to access their den.

Dog you are right and I don't think anyone will disagree. You must be 5' away from like a groundhog hole fox den is what they are referring to

Thats what I was thinking but you know alot of PGC employees who are not up on trapping see hole and they read not legal to set trap in front of hole. Fined.

Re: Dirt hole legal?

Can you cite a specific incident where a trapper was cited for placing a trap in front of a manmade dirthole set, or is your question just an attempt to attack the PGC?

Not always. I asked our local Big Shot to look over my snare setup one day because it is a bit unconventional.
He played with it, ran the lock back and forth, twisted the swivels a little, and handed it back to me.
He said, "I don't know much about these things. Looks ok to me."
