Beaver in corn???

Anyone ever seen beaver come from the river into corn and cut stalks and drag to river? I found a trail up a 20 ft bank from the river into a cornfield that was flooded this year, and the trail is littered with corn stalks that look to have been cut by a beaver. The river is right at the bottom of the bank, so no tracks. The trail is slick and packed. I put two dps there as i figure the coons would use it to get to the corn as well.

Re: Beaver in corn???

Seen this exact same thing last year with muskrats doing it, beavers might do it too though. Doug

Re: Beaver in corn???

It could definitely be beavers. When I trapped in Nebraska I saw beaver dams made up from corn stalks.

Something is always given in nature, never taken...

Could muskrats be dragging the whole stalks?

Re: Beaver in corn???

I've seen it too, and corn stalks helped make the dams up. They had one trail in the corn that went in quite a bit, and yes they had flooded the edge of the field. The farmer was really upset.

Re: Beaver in corn???

You see lots of beavers taking corn stalks in the DWGNRA.
