Dug up set -- Should I remake at same spot?

I had a scent post set dug up yesterday. Wondering if I should make the set at the same spot or move it....maybe switch to a dirthole set...or just remake a scent post at the identical spot? The critter dug up the set w/o setting off the trap. It pulled the unlatched jaw all the way up!!

Looking for some advice. Let me know what you would do....

it is possible that you didn't have it properly bedded. It is also possible that it smelled something on it, I would make sure to bed it so that you have no movement and that it was a clean trap.

Trap was definitely clean. Could have been the bedding though.... You would remake same set and spot?

Re: Dug up set -- Should I remake at same spot?

id remake it in the same spot and also throw in a different set right beside it...throw in a dirt hole or a flat set or whatever you want right beside it with a different lure or bait or whatever..

sounds like a bedding issue to me...make sure you get em bedded nice and solid..but cant rule out scent...could have accidentally dribbled lure or urine on the trap or got it contaminated some other way with who knows what else..but being the loose jaw was dug up, sounds like it was likely a bedding issue...

good luck!!

kiotee -- I don't know why but that never entered my mind. The set is way out in the open but I wouldn't be suprised if it was a coon. There were no good tracks to tell exactly who was the culprit. I'll remake and let you know if I get a hit.
