Re: id tag question

You need to attach a tag. Do you really want WCOs to be pulling your traps to check a number engraved on them?

Re: id tag question

If I remember correctly the law reads a tag must be used. No mention of engraved number. That being said, years back I did see some PGC issued traps, #2 Victor coils square jaw design, that had Pa Game Commission, Harrisburg, Pa stamped om the bottom. Maybe they were exempt from the law. I don't know but it was no big deal to me.

Many trappers roll their tag around a chain link and that is handy when attaching them, but I prefer to wire mine and leave the tag hanging free in case a WCO or landowner wants to check for ownership. If they unwrap your tag I really doubt they would take the time to wrap it back in place. Also if a captured animal rips one off, its easy to see the tag needs replacing. But hey, that's just my way. Feel free to do what you want.

Re: id tag question

I used to use two tags, one rolled around the chain and the other free hanging, in case the free hanging one came off. PGC traps are stamped for identification in case of theft. The also use copper tags that have PGC info on them. The PGC leg hold traps don't get a whole lot of use anymore since the advent of licensed nuisance trappers.

It is unlawful to: (12) Set a trap of any description unless each device is marked with a durable identification tag attached to the trap or trap chain which, at the option of the trapper, must legibly set forth in English the first name, last name and legal home address of the person setting or tending the trap or must bear a number issued by the commission. All information under this paragraph shall be subject to the provisions of section 325 (relating to limitation on disclosure of certain records).
