Re: are coons starting prime

ive always used the Thanksgiving as my rule of thumb....anything before then has a real good chance of being blue...our coon fur season in PA is relatively short lived depending on the winter....but your looking at a few weeks or so typically before cold and snow set in and the coon start denning up and getting stained and rubbed..

Re: are coons starting prime

i've been lucky the last few years. the coons i got while canine trapping were mostly big boars so even from the beginning of season they were not blue. this year however the boy and i will be targeting coon and expect we will run into some blue ones. because of our schedules and other seasons most of our trapping will have to be done before thanksgiving so it is what it is i guess.

Now your diggin' where the 'tators are!

Re: are coons starting prime

Northern tier countys may be starting to fur up but the skins may still be thin.
Venango is prime by the first of November.

Re: are coons starting prime

On a side not I ran up to Pulaski to do some salmon fishing yesterday. Without exaggerating I had to see at least 30+ dead coons alongside the road. Only saw one roadkilled deer and one red fox the whole way as well.

Re: are coons starting prime

Coons start to get winter fur the Middle of August and they don't get what we call prime until about the third week in November.
