Beaver time again

I wasnít gonna set for beavers in January, but with the open water we have now I thought Iíd set for a few. Iím running a canine line now, but I knew where there were a couple beaver hanging out close to that line. I picked up one yesterday with one set out, 3 today with three traps. All castor mounds, #4 Dukes on drowning sliders. All 4 were big ones, the 3 today went 40, 42, and 50 lbs. Their castor sacs were huge...the castor is worth more than their fur now. Boned out some meat for making bait later in the season, gonna drag a couple carcasses behind the quad tomorrow to lay out a trail for some CRs Iím gonna hang.

I got my skinning time down to 15 minutes each....fleshing time is a work in progress. After fleshing beaver all season, Iíll have arms like Popeye by April.

Nice beavers. I caught my biggest ever today in a 1.65 set for mink by the back foot somehow. I'm guessing 60 pounds but might go better. I need to get a scale.
