Is it legal to use a semi auto 22 pistol for trapping in PA?

So it's OK to dispatck trapped animals with a semiauto handgun, but not OK to hunt small game with a semiauto handgun.

Help me understand ???????????????? How did someone come to that conclusion?

Nope, as highlighted above it is only semiauto for the rifles, handguns must be manually operated. Apparently when they were making the legislation semi auto rifles were allowable but handguns were a bit to far for them to wrap their heads around and as such purposely left out.

Firearms While Trapping

• To dispatch trapped animals during deer season, trappers are
limited to semiautomatic or manually operated 22-caliber rimfire
or smaller rifles, manually operated 22-caliber or smaller
rimfire handguns,
or manually operated or semiautomatic air or
gas-operated rifles, manually operated handguns, that are
177- to 22-caliber. Persons under 12 may use a 22-caliber or
smaller rimfire rifle, but only when accompanied by an adult.

When you are up to your butt in alligators, it is hard to remember your intent was to drain the swamp. Stay focused!
