Reset my spots today!

Got out after our big winter storm to remake my sets I pulled on Sunday. Saw or chased 2 nice reds in the process. Hope to have them tomorrow plus others. Lots of sign in the snow and some my spots were dug into pretty heavy by fox as well. Stretchers are empty and ready to be refilled with fur.

Re: Reset my spots today!

I reset one location today and found a rat or something dug down my dirthole and had a backdoor nearby. LOL- now that should get the foxes, though I did toss a stick with lure down the hole. My original plan was to use bait, but I figure the rodent would eat it before a fox showed up.

I don't. I don't know how guys like PSB skin, flesh and stretch so many fox in 1 day. Skinning isn't the hard part, it's the fleshing. Hard for me to know if I am taking too much off, not enough off or what. I hear fox are easy and not much to flesh but seems to take me at least a half hour to flesh each animal.

I did catch 4 fox today!

Cougar, you're not the only one. I did one the other night and it took me awhile, I really wanted to take my time and do a good job.

Re: Reset my spots today!

Same problem here. I had 1 fox down the hill and 1 at that rat hole, and took me a while to skin both of them, though I did them with the feet and that takes a little more time.

Not much fleshing is needed for a red fox for the fur market. Unless it is a fat one I just remove the top thicker part of the saddle, the 2 fat "loops" off the lower belly, and the flesh in front of both ears plus the meat on the earbutt. There is alot more fleshing- nearly complete- when I do them for taxidermy though, plus these get salted.
