Weird surprise in my trap this morning

Checked my traps this morning and I couldn't believe there was a groundhog in one of my traps. He stepped in it by mistake but with it being cold I didnt think they would be out. Anyone else ever catch one in a trap this late.

Never caught 1 in a Trap this late in season, but there was an area near me a few years back where at night, you could drive by clear into the middle of January and see a Ground Hog along the 1 Road munching on the grass that was still green, after the snow fell, that Ground hog was not seen any more till spring, guess he didn't want to dig for the grass!?

Possible early breeding.Think the males search out the dens that have females. They breed and the female never knows it.

The answers to all of life's questions are found in the Bible!

I have never trapped them in the snow but I have seem them in the snow on a few occasions...I am not sure why they were out in the cold...They appear pretty sluggish.

Now that is funny. I was getting dry dirt today from under my porch and have a hog that lives under it. Well when I crawled under it to get dirt. There was a dead hog outsside the hole. She must of been awake and no means no. LMAO

Re: Weird surprise in my trap this morning

I've seen them a few times myself in January and February. Remember, Groundhog's Day is in February. It's there breeding season.
