I completed my collection of Pa furbearer hides. I have been tanning and hanging hides for a couple of years now at my camp. I bought and otter and bobcat hide, but caught and tanned the rest. I think I got them all.... Coyote, red fox, grey fox, fisher, coon, possum, skunk, weasel ( both white and brown), beaver, muskrat, and mink. The bought otter and bobcat also. I have a lot of extra fur tanned, gonna try to do a second set for home.
very nice brownie. curious what tanning method you are using.
Thanks Buzzzzz... I've tried Luftan, brain tanning and Deer Hunters and Trappers Hide Tanning Formula. I like the later, the stuff that comes in bright orange container. Directions are very straight forward .Fox, mink, rats, fisher, etc ....thin skinned critters, are really easy. Coyote, beaver and coon require a lot of flexing to break the hides. A thorough fleshing of the hide is critical.I use a sander with a pretty good grit to thin leather, and a dremel tool to thin down thicker membrane on the heads.
