First day of beaver trapping season

Forgot to bring an extra set of dry cloths and waders this morning.

I'm leaving the house now with dry apparel. Lol

Is anybody else having trouble or finding safe ice?

Have fun.

Re: First day of beaver trapping season

If finding higher than hip boot water from recent rain, still put out three conis and a snare. When my drowning cable gets here ill put in a few footholds. Safe ice?... its been high 50's low 60's in this part of the state.

Re: First day of beaver trapping season

I put in a few beaver sets, few muskrat traps this morning. My hip waders are at camp, didn't want to tear up my good steelhead chest waders, so I just waded in and got wet. Should have a beaver in the morning.

Re: First day of beaver trapping season

I got to set my first traps of the year and got 3 nice beaver 1st night.I got a 40lb,50lb and a 20lber.I pulled out to leave the rest.Theres a ton of otter sign at the location so hope the ice stays away when that season comes in.I rarely have beaver in my trapping areas that's why I pulled out to leave some.I have another area I could go if this darn work would slow down so I can have some fun.Was great not having the ice to deal with this year

Re: First day of beaver trapping season

the beaver around here , although plentiful are showing no interest in bait , the few I caught have been with cables in pinch points , I set no conibears so runs are out for me , any mound sets are losing the lure with the rain . hate to say it but id welcome some ice to bottle em up a month or two and then they'll want some fresh food .
