Muddy critters

When do you usually wash a muddy fox or any other critter, before or after fleshing?

Re: Muddy critters

I would say first thing, even before skinning if you can. I did a coon last year, washed it after it was fleshed and lots of mud stuck to the skin, doesn't rinse or wipe off like you would think, even after it dries.

Re: Muddy critters

when I had a muddy animal I would take them to the creek for a good washing and let them drip dry in a windy place then use either the leaf blower or shop vac to finish them off. probably an extra hour of work, but fur looked good when put up.
