Selling tanned fur question?

We had a lot of last year's trapline fur tanned. Sold a good bit at a juried craft show this year as well. We have our furtakers license, we have a tax id number. However I have people on a website telling me it is illegal to be selling the tanned fur without a permit? What are they talking about?

Not true. Once a skin is tanned, you can sell it or buy it. Untanned, you need a license to buy it, but just you furbearer to sell it, except coyote. They can be sold with just a hunting license. That was brought up on here once before, and I got an email back from PGC confirming it.

What ever website it is, contact the Owner and tell them to contact the PGC and list a phone # for them to use!

You have to remember, some folks from other states can not sell their even if they are tanned....So they "Think" their law applies to Pa as well!

There was a guy on "Trappers Life" Facebook page a year or so ago who saw Phil Brown's 1,000 PLUS Fox catch pictures posted on there and he started saying Phil was committing an Illegal act for you could ONLY catch and keep 6 fox a day and with the season length, there was no way he could be legal...After I and a few others from here in PA explained to the guy that we can catch as many fox as we like, it took a while for him to see where he was only seeing his state's limits......Could be the same thing with the website you had your furs listed on, they were going by another State's laws!

Speaking of this, at one time there were some active out-of-state users on this forum who would discuss trapping methods with Pa. residents. A number of times they would be encouraging Pa residents to use methods that were legal in their states of abode but illegal in Pa. I used to have to scamper about posting disclaimers.

Thanks for the tips and info guys. So far I have emailed 7 of the local (Bedford County) admins of the page and have yet to receive a reply.

Re: Selling tanned fur question?

Not a mod on this forum, but I'll say this: selling anything other than dogs and real estate must be in the classifieds. Secondly, if it is illegal then the ad should be pulled, and thirdly, if in the classifieds it will be pulled anyhow because it violates our rule of a hobby creating something for sale.

I gotta go agitate the techies!

Re: Selling tanned fur question?

He isn't selling anything. He was just asking a question about the legality of selling tanned fur and figured that the trappers would know the answer.
