mink set help

I know I have a couple weeks yet but while I was checking my dp's this morning I saw two minks. I sat and watched one of them for quite sometime. He/she kept going in and out of a piece of PVC pipe in the ground. Never trapped mink so can you guys give me some advice on a set and what lure/trap to use.

Re: mink set help

Dig a hole horizontal above the waterline on a creek, set a 1 or 1.5 coil or long spring just inside the hole. Bait with a chunk of fresh fish or a fresh creek chub. You can also use the pvc pipe that is there and stuff some fish in there and set the trap just in front of the pipe

Re: mink set help

It sure was neat to watch. It was in an out of the pvc pipe several times. The pipe is in the woods up off the creek.

Re: mink set help

You'd be a fool not to throw at trap in front of that pipe.I think blind sets work best for mink.

Re: mink set help

not to stir any trouble but i do have a concern. PA states your not allowed to "set traps within 5 feet of a hole or den" would a WCO cite you for setting near a pipe stating its a hole or den? again not trying to make trouble or accuse just curious.

Re: mink set help

I dont believe PVC would fall into that category but would be an each case kind of thing. Pocket sets would all be illegal if you couldnt set holes.
