Mink Trapping Anchors/Drags

Going to try my hand at mink trapping this winter on some creeks that I've found a lot of sign at this summer; do most typically use drags for blind and pocket sets for mink? After doing some research I planned on tying off to a large limb for most of these sets. Thanks

Re: Mink Trapping Anchors/Drags

i wire my trap to a rotor or window sash weight , toss the weight in a foot of water and the trap acts as the drowner

Re: Mink Trapping Anchors/Drags

I have been using the bricks with holes in them and window sash weight for many years. I take some ribbing on the bricks, mostly from moderators telling me they cause hernias. I like to have them connected to the trap before season and when the first day comes about I have the truck loaded with traps connected to bricks and when I get to my location I am good to go as I do not have to spend any time looking for something to tie my trap off with.

I didn't make it to the gym today. That makes five years in a row.

Re: Mink Trapping Anchors/Drags

Thanks fellas. Do you guys walk your line or drive from spot to spot; I plan on walking my whole line so I'm thinking that kind of weight might be an issue. Thoughts?

Re: Mink Trapping Anchors/Drags

Here's the set up I use most of the time. I make mostly bottom edge sets and don't have to walk far to most locations. The trap gets wired to the paver. I just didn't drill the hole for the wire yet.

I suggest you scout and pick set locations before the season. Hide drags or anchors needed at each location. Drags and anchors can be hidden from season to season near your locations.

I tried telling Nittany Lion to hide his bricks from year to year. But he's a skin-flint Banker and can't leave anything behind that costs money.
After two hernia operations, he's still carrying bricks!
