trout fishing,camping,and trap dying

this past weekend we camped with the grand kids along the trout stream and while the camp fire was blazing away we cleaned, dyed and waxed our 6 doz traps so we are ahead of the game for next trapping season. what is normally a job was turned into a bit of fun. A few trout were caught and eaten also.

I hope the trout that you kept and ate were bigger than the ones that they stocked here. I know for a fact that some that were put in were not even legal length. What a joke trout season has turned in to.

the stocked trout were legal, but nothing over 10 inches. looks like the hatchery cleaned out the fish they did not want to feed for another year.

Jokes on you if you rely on someone to put fish in the stream for you to catch.

Sorry for the hijack. Sounds like a great weekend. You must of had a big pot for 6 doz traps.

Well excuse me Hammer for thinking that my son would be able to enjoy the things that I did 40 years ago. This is when I just say "never mind"

Re: trout fishing,camping,and trap dying

only did 3 doz at a time in a big cast iron butcher kettle. had a camp fire going 2 days for the kids no sense in wasting all of that heat, so we dyed and waxed and drank a few beers while having a family and friends bonding weekend.

Thats cool. Can you post a picture of that pot? be interested in seeing it with something to judge the size of it. Sounds like something I need.

no pic of the pot. Its just an old cast iron scrapple kettle that not many people use these days for scrapple making, about everyone uses stainless steel now days. the pot is probably about 40 gallons. once that cast iron gets hot it stays hot for a long time.
