Beaver Tagging

Do you guys remember when you had to get your beaver pelt tagged by the District Game Protector(WCO)? I almost forgot about this until I was leafing through a 1981 issue Pennsylvania Game News and had a short article on when the "Game Protectors" were going to have beaver tagging sessions.

The horizon is your starting point.

Re: Beaver Tagging

my dad had a $25 fine for something (i think his tag was below the snow or something) and when he went to get his beaver tagged the local warden confiscated his beaver until he paid the fine.....

Now your diggin' where the 'tators are!

Re: Beaver Tagging

trapperrick, Yes, I remember...
At the time, the PGC was trying to keep a handle on Beaver population, So they thought Beaver tagging was the answer.

Was a real hassle for Game Wardens, along with trappers.
Headache for trapper and Game Warden alike.
It's over and happy to move on...

Re: Beaver Tagging

I think it ended right at the end of the 90's. I had just started trapping on my own without my dad when they quit doing the tagging. It was tough to do sometimes. They always did it at the local fur buyers once a year by us, and if you weren't available that day it was hard to get one tagged.

Glad it is gone!!
