My wife is AWESOME

To lessen the pain of me being wrenched from my favorite grouse covers in Maine my wife bought me a used .54 cal TC Hawken cap lock. I AM VERY EXCITED!... to say the least. I guess when I told her I'd probably take up muzzleloading for deer in passing during our move, she paid attention! This is my first muzzleloader and I've never hunted deer before but from I hear and researched the deer population in PA dwarfs what there was in ME. I love it, new home, new hobby!

Re: My wife is AWSOME

yeah well don't to excited yet. the "late" ml season in pa. is "flintlock only". pa. is so in the past on firearm regs.the tradionilists want it kept that way too. lets not keep up with the progression of firearms and keep it back in the 18th century.........

Nice gun to start with.Start working up loads now and you will be ready for early muzzy and rifle season.
Around 80-90grs of FFg,.530 RB,and a .015-.018 patch is good to start.

Re: My wife is AWSOME

congrats! I think we all probably started out with cap guns and still have them, plus have also moved on to flintlocks. you can enjoy your gun for 3 weeks of deer season and maybe later you can convert it to flint. after spending time with it, I think you will probably understand the reason for the late flintlock season and see why so many want it saved as is.

Hmm, Flintlocks only for the late season... I'm thinking one of those might make it into the arsenal in the future!

Awesome attitude nca225! Proud to have you join our ranks in this state!! You're the kind of company I'd keep!

Pick up the tool that is in season. That's EXACTLY what I did when I was a boy. Whether I found certain streams closed to flyfisherman only, when certain hunting implements were in season, or if there is no Sunday hunting ...I had two choices.....

1: Adapt and
or
2: Whine and

(I didn't get my way doing the latter when I was a boy...why should it be any different as a man?)

Good Luck to you brother! You'll LOVE Flint'n!!!

Re: My wife is AWSOME

Congrats, and welcome to the state again! We don't have a late muzzleloader season, we have a late flintlock season, and it's refreshing to know that we still have a real "primitive" season somewhere for those of us who wish to try a bit harder. As stated above, your new gun is usable in the early antlerless muzzleloader season (mid-late Oct), maybe in special regulations areas (ck. your reg book on these) and in our general firearms deer seasons. Conversions are available to make it a flintlock if you wish, which would then also allow it's use in the late flintlock season.

Now go burn some powder in that thing, and see what the excitement of click, pffft, boom is all about!!

Re: My wife is AWSOME

You can use inlines and s/guns in special regs so a percussion would be allowed anywhere the other rifles are allowed.
