Yes you can with good results.Just cut back your load 20% to start out.You should take it to the range before you head out to the field.

I like 3fff in my .50 cal. burns cleaner, good crack!! and great velocity with less powder!!!!try- 60 grains with .490 RB .15-.18 thous. pillow tick patch

Your .50 cal. load is the exact load my son shoots in his, and it puts the round ball where he aims, consistently.

I shoot FFFg in all my flintlocks: the .36, the .45, the two .54's, and the 24 gauge(.58 cal), and I'm always happy with the results.

Good luck with whichever you choose, two F or three F.
