Frizzen hardning-

I have been shooting black powder guns for 37 years. I have 6 T/C Flinters and a senica new in box 45 cal bragging, LOL.I have been hardening frizzens for years .Heat frizzin to red hot before starting this process and let cool. I wrap a frizzen in leather tightly, and wrap it in 5 layers of alum. foil.Start a charcoal fire then place in coals. after 1 hr after you see blue smoke ( about 3 min for smoke), quench in cold water. Your gun will work!!! Also if you can find kasenet it works great, follow directions and you will have a frizzen that is just as hard as factory. Hope this helps !

Re: Frizzen hardning-

hopefully a frizzen with more carbon than from the TC factory. It is indeed easy to do. Shame TC doesn't see fit to use good properly treated steel instead of case hardening mild steel.

Re: Frizzen hardning-

Too much carbon will shatter, I find that 1 hr of hot coals does the trick !!!!! Try it !!

Re: Frizzen hardning-

T/C frizzins are hardened by cyanide, You need carbon .05 in frizzen which is 1 hr in hot coals is fine.
