Anybody try TC Shock Wave sabots in a 50 cal.

I have a 50 cal Traditions flintlock with 1-48" twist. Always used RB. Killed one deer with RB and she ran 200 yds, hit in the gut. Thought I would try the 200 grain TC Shock Waves this year. I know nothing about them. How accurate are they? Can I use Goex FF? How many grains? Or are round [censored] better? Thanks.

Re: Anybody try TC Shock Wave sabots in a 50 cal.

I shot them for a couple seasons, up until about 2 years ago. They shot great outta my Traditions Deer Hunter with 90gr. of GOEX FF and loaded easy. However they cost to dang much and I had some expansion issues on deer, they smacked em hard but never seemed to really make big holes. After I lost a deer to yotes I had to let lay after a good shot, enter behind front shoulder and broke off shoulder, that simply did not leave enough blood to follow...enterance hole was size of bullet and exit was literaly maybe a small fraction bigger. This was not my only experience like this with them, but it was my last and the one that made me switch.

Last year during my search for new bullets I found 240gr. T/C Cheap Shot sabots, they are a solid lead bullet...essentially a round ball formed into a hollowpoint bullet. They are as accuracte as shockwaves were with the same load, they load easier, $6 per 20 pack, and man those things expand like right The first deer I shot with them, last season, was 93 yds double lung shot and a full passthrough...she went 40ds and was done. Blood was everywhere and when I field dressed that deer I could not believe the clotting and the devastation of those bullets. I know have 4 or 5 packs of cheap shot sabots and plan to shoot them til I cant find them anymore or they stop making them!

They shoot great out of my Encore but not worth a hoot from my Lyman GPH flinter. My uncle shoots them from a TC Triumph and they shoot 1 1/2" groups at 50yds.

i shoot the 250 grain shockwaves out of my encore. I like them with a magnum charge (150 pyrodex) and they open up real good and hit hard. at lower speeds, 100 grains of pyrodex or 90 of black powder from the flinter I have not had as good of success. dont really expand at the slower speeds. I have had better luck with the 240 grain xtp bullets with the hollow type point when shooting the reduced speed loads.

Your just jealous because I've been chatting online with babes all day!!

I think it has to do with the twist it seems my hawkins is very accurate with the green mmp sabots with a 44 240 grain hornady xtp with 100 grn of powder. I will load it up to 110 when hunting but I have it 2 inches high at 50 yrds. The 1:48 twist seems to shoot the sabots very well between that range. I never tried it higher, never needed to knocks them down. I started with shockwaves years ago but find these work better.

I shot the 250 grain shockwaves outta my Omega and they were plenty accurate...IIRC I was getting @ 1" group at 100 yards with 100 grains pyrodex pellets. My Renegade flinter likes the 320 grain maxiballs with 85 grains 2f...have never tried the shockwaves with that gun.

Bigfoot saw me but nobody believes him!
