54 cal loads

any suggestions on grains of powder and bullet weight for 100 lbs kid....with a range limit of 40 ta 50 yds max ?

Most 54 RBs are 240 grains. 60 grains of FFg will kill most PA game out to 100 yards. Beyond 90 grains and groups tend to widen.

My .54 likes 85 grains of 3f. Smokepoles are like women, ya gotta find out what makes'em happy.

I can't tell a differance in recoil if I'm shooting a light target load or a hunting load. I was taught to use what ever caliber you are using in grains of powder for target shooting and increase it by 50% for hunting. If you have an odd number always round up. In a 50 cal a target load would be 50 gr and 75 gr for hunting. In a 54cal I use 55 gr for target and 85 for hunting. I have had good results like this.
