ML cold weather storage/cleaning opinions?

Guys,

I am pretty comfortable now with shooting and cleaning my ML, however being new to the weapon I need some opinions regarding what to do with my ML storage in cold weather. I am not asking about during huning, but when the hunt is over and planning on hunting the next day or two.

A good example was this weekend, brutally cold and hunting the following day. Do you guys keep your guns loaded? Where do you store it? Take it inside or keep outdoors (i.e. inside truck)? How long is too long to keep loaded in this weather?

Shooting Pyrodex and Powerbelts.

I just don't know how finicky these guns are with moisture? Here is what I did: loaded for afternoon hunt on Thursday, kept it loaded (dumped pan powder wiped pan with dry patch)and stored in gun case in my truck. Hunted Friday and Saturday repeating the same process with same load. I swabbed the barrel with a dry patch before each hunt just in case. I was going to shoot it Saturday after I was finished, but thought I would spare myself of a thorough cleaning. Pulled the breech plug and unloaded that way.

Experience is golden with anything so since I don't have any yet with ML I am asking you guys!

Some of this is covered in the Tradtional forum, that I asked about yesyerday. Check it out.

WW,

Yep that definitely answers my question! Need to start looking in both forums from now on before posting. Didn't have much time this go around. Will do so next time though.

Thanks!

Re: ML cold weather storage/cleaning opinions?

It all depends...I am not a big fan of keeping it loaded, but mine was loaded from last year. Did not discharge before the end of the season. I did not trust the load going off this season for sure, but it went off immediately on the first attempt. I will definately be discharging at the end of this year for sure. Kept in a cool basement all year. Keep in mind if youre keeping it in your truck, you are heating your truck up and also heating the gun...then taking it right out into the cold...could get condensation that way too.
