Fall Turkey Muzzleloader

I plan on going for turkey tomorrow with my inline. Question I have is shot placement on a turkey Im using Hornady XTP 250 grain hollow points. Where should I shoot the turkey without blowing up alot of the good meat?

Re: Fall Turkey Muzzleloader

I would guess where the neck meets feathers, or directly above the leg, but with that set up I think you are going to do some damage to the breast, at least bruising it from the impact. Good luck

There is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people asking questions.

Thanks Fly Guy I'll give the above the leg shot a go. I'll let you know if I get one and what the effects of the shot were.

IMO you'll have instant Turkey salad no matter where you hit it!

Re: Fall Turkey Muzzleloader

I recently harvested a Merriam jake with a .223 pushing a 55grain soft point. Hit the bird right where I was aiming in the hip bone and still lost probably 25% of the meat (the other 75% was quite tasty though). I can only imagine what a 250grain HP would do in a similar situation!

Re: Fall Turkey Muzzleloader

I guess I'll have to build one of these muzzleloading .223, .22 mags., or .22-.250!

I'm heading up to Tioga Co. this coming weekend, and I'll carry my .36 cal. flintlock with its 42" barrel, pushing a .350 patched roundball with 30 grains of FFFg Goex! Maybe whack a squirrel or two if given the opportunity!

Out to 50 yards, I'll aim for the wing butt.
