shock wave penetration

I was fortunate enough to harvest a nice doe on Saturday, 200 grain shock waves with 100 grains of triple 7.

I shot the deer at 40 yards, hit at the top of the right shoulder, went through and came out the ribs on the other side and stopped before penetrating the hide. I was quite surprised I didn't get a pass through. The deer ran about 30 yards and expired, fortunately it didn't go far it didn't leave an ounce of blood on the ground.

Is that normal with these rifles? I read another post that the bullet was recovered. I'm just a bit surprised it wasn't a pass through. I found the sabot.

Re: shock wave penetration

I found some good reading on a older post that I must have passed over. Seems like a common problem that can be fixed with different loads/bullets. I should have read it before posting.

Re: shock wave penetration

I shoot 250 grain shockwaves infront of 2 white hot pellets and I keep getting pass throughs through the lungs. The entry and exit are about the same dime size hole.
