On the can it says to use the 209 primers because you need a hotter spark. I havent had any problems with using the 209's

Re: black horn 209 powder ?

Check out this video on youtube.

This guy is shooting blackhorn 209 with a #11 cap. He uses 5 grains of Shockey's gold as a boost charge to ignite the blackhorn 209.

Re: black horn 209 powder ?

Doesn't using the Shockey's gold eliminate some of the reasoning behind using black horn?

Re: black horn 209 powder ?

I would imagine to a point. Probably would still have easier loading and cleanup than just using Shockey's gold since he is only using 5gr. I haven't tried this myself.

Re: black horn 209 powder ?

that's me shooting the Hawken.

The 5 grain charge is just to get the BH209 to ignite. It doesnt eliminate the purpose of BH209, but does slow down reloading big time.

Guys that shoot the CVA Electra often use 5 to 10gr T7 and then blackhorn209 on top of that to get the BH209 to light off.

Great video!

That's what I was thinking. I plan on trying this myself.
