Scope recommendation.

I did a trade with dchunter for a traditions G4 Lightweight inline. The trade went awesome and Dave is a great guy! It was a pleasure meeting him! He held onto the muzzy for me while I was dealing with the loss of my dad, and that sure meant alot!

In our conversation, I was thinking a 2x7, now I am thinkin maybe something more powerful! Mainly gonna be used in fall bear. I may use it out of state when I retire, so what do you all think from your experiences?

Thank you in advance!

If you're hunting bear, you're in the thick stuff, stay with the 2x7. I killed a groundhog one time at 400 hundred yard with a 257 Roberts toped with a Leupold 2x7. Yeah it took 2 shots to get it done, not enough hold over on the first shot.

Unless you really want the 2 x 7 for compactness, you can usually get a better deal on a 3 x 9 in the same scope.

I've shot plenty of groundhogs with my .257 Rbts topped with a 4x M8 at 300+ yds when a kid....and missed a fair share too. Kind of a little spec at that distance at 4x. I've shot at a few at 400 or so with a 4x, but never managed to connect at that range with that set up.

I have a G4 with the Leupold Ultimate Slam BDC with the quick release mounts. It seems perfect.
I swapped it from my Austin & Halleck and it is about half the weight and just as accurate and pretty.
