Altoona

Anyone on here in the Altoona area? I have a new Lyman due next week, plan on hunting lands near Glendale lake. Then at Canoe Creek state park.

Squint one eye, hold yr lip just right!

Re: Altoona

Canoe Creek , Limestone trail to Moores Hill trail.
Used to hunt that area and was good to if you knew where to look.
Not going to hand over the deer , but that puts you close.
Used to hunt the Glendale area , behind the rifle range actually. Take the gated road , concentrate on the left hand side. Was better before the one area really grew up.
No longer hunt there either but that's where'd I'd go if I went back.

Re: Altoona

Many yrs ago back when they didn't care about the tourists feeding the deer , they opened parts of the park to smokepoles.
What a slaughter , those deer where used to people practically hand feeding them.
I can remember going back to the sail boat area and the deer would come out right to the car when they heard you.
Browse line in some areas had to be 6 feet high and as far as the eye could see.

Re: Altoona

If you end up behind canoe creek, go back on SGL 166 to the gate at the "Beaver Dams". You get there by going off 22 at the east entrance to the lake, go back past the lake about2 miles and there is a dirt road on the right as the hard road takes a 90 degree left. Go all the way to the closed gate and hike in about a mile or so across the bridge and you should have some game to hunt.

There is no "X" in my bow!!

Re: Altoona

I have hunted SGL 166. boy is there some territory back in there. You get way back in there boy there is some good deer sign. Just like all other game lands you gotta go where the standard crowd wont go. Thick stuff, steep stuff way back in.
