Flintlock loads

I bought a Lyman Deerstalker and was wondering a good starting point for loads using a 490 ball and 010 patch

That .010 patch is WAY too thin.Lyman cut rifling even deeper that TC. That patch will give unclean burn and blowby.
TC - .015-.018
Lyman- .018-.022.

Shot powerbelts last year. Same gun with 90 grains of 2f and a 245 grain aerotip powerbelts. Unfortunately did not get to shoot a deer with it but had good groups on paper.

I shoot powerbelt aerotip 245 grain with 90 grains of 2f. I have had good luck on 4 deer over the last couple of years. Only one doe that I had to track and she was hard to track with little to no blood. I hit her high through and through. Wound was too high to leave a lot of blood. Other 3 dropped in their tracks.

I have the .54 cal deerstalker. It shoots great with little delay or misfires. I'm shooting 75g of 3f and 3f in the pan as well. At 60 yards I was keeping them in a 5 inch circle. I'm very new to this, so I will be experimenting with other loads.

I run 80 grains of 2fg in my .54 caliber Lancaster with patched round ball. Load data on the Goex website shows this load with a muzzle velocity of around 1650 fps. It works well for me.

My Old TC Renegade loves 90FF and the TC 320 Maxi Ball pre lubed . back in the day when only ball and patched were allowed I used

.490 ball 70 FF is wasn't the greatest. but shortly there after they allowed traditional bullet .. and it currently hitting its mark with the 90 FF load.
