54 TC Renegade Stocks

Yesterday I shot my 54 Cal. Renegade and found the stock was cracked from the lock.Is there a correct repair for cracked wood or would a replacement stock be advisable ? Stocks are not easy to find and I am looking now well before the late season to correct this.I built this thing from a kit in the early 80's and would want to keep using it. Any ideas?

If you want to replace it, pick your poison... TOTW TC Replacement Stocks

Just make sure you get the right channel/barrel size of 15/16 or 1". First page full stocks, second page half.

Re: 54 TC Renegade Stocks

Can you post pics of the crack???

Might help someone help you fix it...

eBay typically has stocks...you'll need the 1" channel...

Don't know that you'll find a replacement that is ready to finish and bolt the parts onto....

That stock was sold as a replacement stock...I believe most replacement stocks will be similar requiring a fair bit of work...

eBay is probably your best bet to find a factory stock...

Re: 54 TC Renegade Stocks

At this point you have nothing to lose by trying to fix the crack. I have fixed many and you could not tell there ever was a crack. First off there has to be a reason that it cracked so check that the lock is not to tight and remove any wood so it drops in. Then clean the crack if there is a lot of oil present. I was taught a long time ago that a good glue joint is stronger than wood so make sure you have a good way to clamp the fix before you touch the glue. Use a good glue and not just Elmer's white which will not hold up to water and give the repair 24 hours to cure. A little sanding and maybe a little finish touch up and should be good as new.

Good luck with the repair and let us know how it comes out.

Friends don't make promises they can't keep.

Re: 54 TC Renegade Stocks

Most TC cracks I have seen are from overtightening the lock. I have use epoxy to repair stocks, not wood glue. Have to look into that if I repair another one. Also, I have used threaded brass pins for more serious cracks/breaks.

Re: 54 TC Renegade Stocks

Today I used a epoxy glue mix and followed the directions for use on wood. It says it will set up in 4 hours..but a full week to be cured. Thanks for advise here on HPA... I was able to bend stock to push glue into crack, hoping for the best.

Re: 54 TC Renegade Stocks

The stock looks pretty good with the epoxy. Can not bend cracks and will do some sanding and apply finish and go shoot it.Thanks again for the info.
