cracked stock on TC Hawkins

anyone deal with TC/Smith & Wesson with a cracked stock on a TC 50 cal Hawkins stock.
Took mine out of gun cabnet and saw a crack that ran with grain of wood from top of stock, to hole that screw that holds lock in place.
When it was TC it was 100% warranty, I have not delt with S & W dont know what to expect.

Call them. Worst that can happen is they say no.

Be prepared to have them come up with 43 reasons why it is not a manufacturing defect. Or just tell you parts are not available and blow you off.

Now if you get an expert, gunsmith, that can give the opinion that is was a manufacturing defect, sue for violation of the warranty under the pa unfair consumer practices act. Tripe damages..

I highly doubt you will get anything replaced by S&W. They don't have any stocks to give you or even most parts for routine repairs. I will keep my TC's but I bought a Lyman rifle as well.

It can be repaired with Accu-glas gel and will work pretty well. No more sidelocks from TC. I wouldn't buy a TC inline or a S&W product again just for that reason.

I would box it up and send it with a description of problem. It would be easier for them to repair/replace than to send back.

Why would it be easier? It could possibly just be turned around and sent back at your expense if they didn,t authorize you to send it to em.

Re: cracked stock on TC Hawkins

The reason is like Zimm said.On the phone they can give every reason in the book for you NOT to send it.Once it is in their hand they gotta deal with it.Send it that a signature is needed.
Couple years ago I broke a hammer on a TC Seneca.Long time out of production.Lady I talked to said they still have the casting for it.Was told no need to call just send the problem part and they will replace.
Maybe thing have changed but it is what I would do.

Re: cracked stock on TC Hawkins

Check eBay. I've seen quite a few muzzleloader stocks and barrels for sale there.

Re: cracked stock on TC Hawkins

I doubt you will get anything from S&W even if you send them your stock. A nice stock on eBay will run you about $150-$200. Make sure it isn't a kit stock because sometimes the finish isn't that nice. They have a "K" stamped on the inside of the barrel channel. Another option would be to part it out on eBay and take you money and buy a Lyman.
