Finally like my inline

I bought a CVA Optima on clearance at Walmart a few years ago but only shot it a few times. I never got real good accuracy out of it and hated cleaning between every shot when I used pyrodex or 777. I recently bought a Cabela's Powderhorn 3-9X40 scope for it and was heading to the range this afternoon. Called my cousin to see if he wanted to go. He couldn't but told me to stop by on my way. He gave me a can of Blackhorn209 powder and said to try it. I will never use anything but this poweder again. I was shooting 250gr Hornady SST/ML bullets, 100gr of powder and Winchester 209 primers. I fired 4 shots boresiting it and adjusting it at 50 yards. I then moved to 100 yards and shot this three shot group.

I then cleaned it, not because it needed it but I felt like I should. The 7th round seated just as easy as the first. I then took another shot at 100 with a clean barrel and it was 5 inches high. After that shot, the following three dropped back down and produced a group identical to the one above.

Good shooting. Quick question, when you were shooting at 50 how high was it to hit bullseye at 100? When I was sighting mine in again this weekend (changed scoped and dropped to a 225gr.) I was 1" high at 50 and 3" low at 100. Just trying to see if this was average.

Re: Finally like my inline

I really didn't measure. I got the windage adjusted at 50 and I think it was about 1.5 inches high. When I moved to 100 the elevation was dead on.

my optima was doing that with pyrodex rs. Make sure you clean that bh209 out, its giving others rust issues over on dougs message boards.

Re: Finally like my inline

I read that on a few other boards. The nice thing I've found about Blackhorn is it's really easy to clean. I run a dry patch to push out the crud, run a patch or two of Hoppes then one or two dry patches and it's completely clean.
