T/C Encore scope mount issue

Anyone have a problem with their scope mount on their Encore?

I have a stainless .50 cal barrel. I have the T/C base on it. That base came on a blued barrel when I bought it. It was fine on the blued barrel, but now that I have it on the stainless one, I can't get enough elevation out of the scope to even get it hitting on paper. I even have a shim under the rear of the base and a shim under the rear of the scope to angle it more toward getting it high enough, but still the best I can get is hitting about 8 inches low at 50 yards.

Looking at the base, it has a screw in the rear and another about an inch forward of that, but none in the front of the mount. It appears the front of the base is raised a little. Thinking about taking it to my local smith and having him drill it and put a screw in the front to tighten it down as well.

Anyone else have an issue like this??? I've never had anything remorely like it before.

Re: T/C Encore scope mount issue

I think you should be shimming the front not the back.

Re: T/C Encore scope mount issue

Appreciate the input, but I think I have it shimmed right. It was over a foot low at 50 when I started.
If you think about it, shimming the back raises the rear of the scope, imparting a downward line of sight on it, which brings it closer to the line of bore, which to me should narrow the point of impact with the line of sight of the scope.

What is your bullet, grain size, powder choice and volume? How old is your powder?

Re: T/C Encore scope mount issue

I use loose triple7 powder. Bought that can probably a year and a half ago. I use either 295 or 348 grain powerboats. Same as I shot out of the blued barrel. Is there a different base for the stainless barrels than the blued?

A picture is worth a thousand words. If I understand you correctly, there are only two screws in the mount. The TC Weaver and the TC Maxima mounts as well as the two piece Weaver all have four screws. Do you have the correct mount? Check TC Arms website for photos. With all of the Contenders and Encores I have used over the years I have never had to shim any mount.

Yeah I was typing that at work on midnights last night. Brain was probably a little foggy. You are 100% correct. The mount indeed has two screws in the rear and then two more screws just in front of that, but no screw clear out at the very front, where it is raised up a little.

Re: T/C Encore scope mount issue

Checked that link too, no doubt it's a T/C base. Never had anything like this before. I may remove the base and start all over again with it. I've never had to shim a scope on any firearm before. I've also tried several Leupold scopes on it just to make sure it wasn't a scope issue and I get the same thing with all of them. I have a VX-3 1.75-6x32mm on it now.

Re: T/C Encore scope mount issue

I have ran ino this problem a couple of times over the years on various guns.

One thing that may help is check your ring height, the higher the ring sets up off of the base/reciever, the lower the impact of the bullet will be, in most cases the scope will have enough down adjustment to compensate for this, sometimes not. Not all scopes have the same amount of adjustment abilities.

If you can get away with a lower set of scope rings on your set up, it doesnt take much, and i think you would be fine.

Re: T/C Encore scope mount issue

I think you're right in your assessment. But my rings are Weaver lows.
