There are a few in central PA. Not right around the corner from you, but for a really nice rifle, a 3+ hr drive isn't too bad. People all around the country order rifles from PA rifle makers and pay for them to be shipped, which is no small expense. We in PA are spoiled to have such talent literally in our collective back yards.
BB, sorry but i am not good at working with my hands. I spent 45 years in management and have tried some projects on that never turn out very good. I am more of a rough carpenter, very rough.
I have a TC, but I really want the long rifle.
You might want to go to the website the 18th Century Artisan's Fair (just held last weekend in Lewisburg). The exhibitors at that event are listed, with links to their respective websites. You'd be able to quickly get links to a bunch of builders' websites and see where they are and what they offer.
I wouldn't let a long-ish drive deter you. You will have a fair bit of time and money involved in a really great custom long rifle, so a few bucks in gas and a few hours of time on the road is small in the grand scheme of things, and when you have the rifle you imagine in your head actually come to life and sit in your hands, it'll be worth it.
You may find some builders that aren't far from you, too. The ones I know of are all about 3 hours east of you, but that doesn't mean there aren't any closer. The Artisan's Show is a big deal, though, so the list of builders found there should be a pretty good one.
