find the greeniest grass on gaslines or field edges and play wind right in your setup, and wait or if you know the area your hunting, make drives,me and my son make 2 man drives all flintlock season and usally get 2 or 3 mature does, but we know where to setup, wind direction, and which way they will go.Very hard to still hunt in these conditions
There are some conditions that defy stealth. I didn't go out yesterday AM for that reason. I love hunting mornings, but the access roads froze and the dirt frost-heaved and crystalized. Makes it sort of like walking on dry rice crispies. There's just no being quiet on that stuff.
I'll go to stands where I can stay on paths with grass/leaves and not bare dirt, where I can move slower and have a hope of not being as loud. Afternoons are usually easier to get into, as things USUALLY aren't frozen as hard.
I have permission to hunt the lands I am on....but I can't bring anyone else...I have done the sitting on the edge of the field/gas line deal...wind was perfect yesterday but nothing showed....this is a tough time of year to hunt these guys....but a neat challenge...thank god i got meat in the fridge..
I'm having the same problem in 1b. Frozen leaves with an icy layer of snow. I tried waiting them out yesterday with no luck. Freezing rain and now rain today. Terrible season for me so far.........but I still love going out with the flinter!
