Barrel wedge loose/ falls out

Sorry this may be a dumb question but I have a traditions pa accelerator and my barrel wedge is extremely loose and if I actually turn the gun on its side it falls out. What is causing this? The flintlock is brand new shot literally one time. Sorry I'm a total newbie to the world of flintlocks.

Slight bent will fix it.

Re: Barrel wedge loose/ falls out

Try hammering the side of the wedge lightly while resting it on the anvil of a bench vise. Should fatten it up a little bit. If not, these wedges are cheap and available at most shops with blackpowder supplies. Maybe another one will be a little thicker.

Re: Barrel wedge loose/ falls out

Have you tried inserting it from the opposite side of the stock? Sometimes that does the trick.

Re: Barrel wedge loose/ falls out

Any stores carry them? I seem to remember seeing some somewhere recently but can't remember where. Had my wife ask while she was doing after christmas shopping and she didn't have any luck. I lost one of mine for now I wrapped electrical tape sticky side out a few wraps then wrapped the sticky side in on top of it. Have a Dr appt today. I am gonna do some looking. A guy told my wife his son lost one years ago and has his secured with copper wire and it has worked for years. I don't want to scratch my stock or my barrel.

You can’t get them if you ain’t in the woods!!

Not sure what gun you need a wedge key for, but TOTW has them for most guns.

Re: Barrel wedge loose/ falls out

It's pretty hit or miss but walmarts, dicks sporting goods, and dunhams sometimes have them, especially with everything picked over. Not sure if they are interchangeable between TC, CVA, etc. brand but would think they are (stand corrected from previous post they are not interchangeable)?
