TC vs. Lyman lock

From pictures the Thompson center and Lyman flint lock assemblies look the same, has anyone tried to put a lyman lock on a tc gun? From what I have heard the Lyman frizzen will work on a tc lock with some modifications. I wonder what the actual differences are, maybe pan, sear or lock bolt location? Maybe the shape of the lock plate is slightly diferent? The original TC locks now sell for big bucks on Ebay, but Lyman locks are available direct from Lyman, new for about $140 with shipping.

Re: TC vs. Lyman lock

Can buy and L&R rpl lock for the TC or Lyman for the same price and probably better than both of them...

no they are not the same ,save yourself a lot of headache and money ....right now im in the process of converting a new Englander 54 into a flintlock and went through the same thing....l&r is the only other option unless you send or take your lock to a smith that came make turd of a lock into a gold pocket watch

Re: TC vs. Lyman lock

I have TC's improved lock and a Lyman on my Deerstalker. They both work just fine.

Re: TC vs. Lyman lock

I have a cobbled gun made with Investarm, Lyman and TC parts together in an unfinished Investarms hawken stock. Some of the parts dropped in and some needed a small amount of fitting, but I do not remember which lock is on the gun,

But save the time and hassle and get an L&R lock, so much better all the way round.
