After a long work week, and Saturday errands, I wasn't going to let a little rain keep me out of the brush.
Prior commitments however limited me to an hour afield.
Still, right away the dogs stepped on one, an intense 15seconds of me scrambling to get a shell out of my pocket, the rabbit found his hole 10ft from me.
A few minutes later the dogs are working a briar patch and come out... no rabbit in there I guess, just then Trigger's nose lifts up into the wind and he crashes back into the brush- the chorus starts a moment later signaling its a hot track and the race is on.
The rabbit runs nearly a perfect circle, the dogs are getting close now, still sounding good- Gunner picking up the occasional check. I'm starting to wonder if I somehow missed the rabbit running by me when I spy movement.
He was running at a good clip until he connected with a tight pattern of shot mid-air, anchoring him instantly.
Moments later the dogs are on him, and Trigger claims the prize and delivers his trophy to me.
Trigger, as happy as can be.
