Grouse Hunting 1/25/14

I was planning on driving 2 hours to go grouse hunting tomorrow.

Looking at the forecast, I am not sure its worth the trip. Looks like 20+ mph winds.

What do the diehard grouse hunters think? Are you guys going?

The deer didn't disappear.... the 250,000 guys who used to walk around and make the deer move did.

can't kill them from the couch.

I'll be out. A day in the woods with my dogs is a good day no matter what. However, with the expected weather forecast my expectation for pinning birds is not high.

Re: Grouse Hunting 1/25/14

I am just trying to decide if its worth the 2 hour trip to an area I normally would flush 20+ or travel an hour to areas I might flush 5-10 on a good day.

I wish grouse still existed in the areas that I used to hunt. I'm envious of guys who can be hunting in a half hour or less.

yep, going out no matter what.
I'm agonizing over which spot as I type.

I have a couple of different spots in mind, trying to decide which one based looking for thermal cover on GE.

Good Luck tomorrow Fellas

I'm just as worried about the roads. I also drive an hour and a half to two hours. Driving there and finding the roads iced up will not be fun.

I can't really give sound advice until you PM the location.

I'd be going out if I could regardless of wind. I'd try areas down out of the wind, i.e. the keels of hollows, patches of hemlocks with appropriate cover around etc.

If guns cause crime, mine must be broken.

Flushed a grouse 40 yards from my back door a few weeks ago I love it.

I will be hunting a bit longer tomorrow pending on wind. I will be hunting behind the house first, then hit up a few other close to home areas.
