Wiped out another spot

This particular spot has bothered me for years. Despite pounding it hard a few times a year, the bunnies somehow maintain their numbers. However, I think taking fifteen off of it today might have done the trick. Note the happy faces on the whole crew. Just so pleased that we wiped out another spot.

Re: Wiped out another spot

Could you take some pics of the habitat at this spot without giving away its location? It would be good to see what is required to provide a 15 rabbit hunt.

Re: Wiped out another spot

Lynn, Thick Yellow hay, with edge multiflora, Thick pines and hard hack . I would say maybe 100 acres of solid cover.
Wintering cover is the key, most of our best spots have thick multiflora that winters the rabbits well.
We must have ran 30 rabbits, Saw multiples (1 time 3 rabbits) in front of the dogs several times.

Thanks for the invite Rich (and especially HD)always a pleasure. Good to see young Ben have such a good day too.
Great to see a young guy out there getting after it.

Re: Wiped out another spot

Thanks for the reply but a picture is worth a thousand words as they say. It would be great if you guys getting big rabbit counts could take some pictures of the cover. There are those here who think predators are the reason there are no rabbits. I would like to help them see that habitat is the key and what types of habitat works.

Re: Wiped out another spot

He said multiflora rose, hardhack {spiraea) pines and hay

We all know multiflora rose is key but some will want to fudge hem and haw and whine about it but it holds rabbits and pheasant quite well. Hardhack is great cover but absolutely no food value to speak of save some song birds.

very nice hunt John & Rich!!
