Great way to bring in the new year (cover pics)

Got out this morning from 9:15 to 11:30. we put up 7 and I missed one. Lilly put up 4 on her own and 3 wild flushes from trees accounted for the others. It was great to see her really start working scent, and even tracks.

The birds were holding pretty decent but were flushing low and in the cover. Did not want to brush bust them. The one I missed Lilly set up perfectly but I whiffed.

I did get to watch her sight point some Tweety birds. She would hold on my whoa command. She would only hold for about 5 seconds and then would creep/crawl after them, then explode after them. Wish she would do that on grouse scent.

Here are a few pics from the day.

Find the buck rub in the above photo. Didn't notice it until I got home.

Bear den?

Drumming log? Lilly sniffed and followed the tracks right to that spot. I was pretty pumped. Brush and pines is where this guy call home.

A grouse flushed from this tree. What is it and do they eat it?

Hope you enjoyed some pics and my hunt. I am really loving this sport andcwatchinv my dog get better with each trip out. I only wish I could hit these guys. Hoping to get out on Saturday for a little while.

If you're referring to the berries, they look like bittersweet. That's actually a vine growing in the tree, and not fruit on the tree itself. The tree it's growing in appears to be a striped maple.

Yep, it is bittersweet, and yes grouse do eat it.

Here is a small video clip of Lilly working a bit of cover. She works pretty good. She is keeping a bit tighter in this video than normal. She does pause every once in a while wich is nice.

Thanks guys. PGC thinks that is a bear den, and might be taking a WCO out to check it out. I hope he/she is not a Grouse Hunter as this is right off of my favorite grouse spot, and you know how us Grouse guys are

You mean you didn't crawl in there and inspect further?
