Winter Upland birds

I am always off between Christmas and New Years. I am curious what other people think would be the best upland bird hunting experience during this time anywhere within an 8-9 hour drive from Philadelphia.

Re: Winter Upland birds

Well, If you're talking 8 or 9 hour drive then I'd have to say quail hunting in North or South Carolina.

Re: Winter Upland birds

How about Virginia for Quail. It would be a little closer than NC/SC but I am not sure if they have a huntable wild population.

That's where research comes in. I do know that there are wild quail populations in and around Winchester, Virginia because I work in that area from time to time. But, if you're interested in a trip to hunt some where, you'll be better off to research before driving blindly into an area.

Re: Winter Upland birds

Some guys head down to New Jersey, of all places, for woodcock. I understand the shooting can be good down around Cape May. Never tried it, but we do head for Maryland for their late season, which starts later this month.
