Leg Cramps

Anybody ever get leg cramps after chasing your favorite game all day? Saturday night after grouse hunting, I had 2 episodes of cramps. The dog and I were laying on the couch, watching the tube, when WHAM. Thought my muscles would snap!
I drank gatoraid all day. No help though. It got worse then, as the cramps lessened, I began to shiver uncontrollably for several minutes.
It took a blanket, sleeping bag and my dog on top of me to warm me up.

Any cures for cramps out there?

Re: Leg Cramps

I get leg cramps quite often at night. Extremely painful. Quinine water(tonic) is supposed to be one of the best things for it. I don't drink anymore but if I did I'd make sure I had a G&T before bed.

I always keep a tube of Icy/Hot handy just for that.

After awhile, most hunters can convince themselves they're as fit as 20 year old paratroopers.
When tree stands can start holding 300 and 350 lbs, somebody is [censored]'ing somebody.

My grandmother used to swear that sleeping with a bar of soap under your sheets would keep you from getting cramps. I wouldn't know though cause I don't get them.

Gram always was a little wacky though...

Re: Leg Cramps

This works for us

Moisten your index finger and dip it in table salt.
Place or salted finger under your tongue until the salt is absorbed directly into your system.
Really works for me.
Cramps are usually gone in a few minutes and don't return.
Then take and rinse your mouth with clean water and drink that down too.

Regularly eat a bananas,or take some potassium pills either or both of these will prevent cramping if not eliminate it.

Re: Leg Cramps

You can go to the pharmacy and get pills for leg cramps. You don't need a prescription. If you can't find them, ask the pharmacist. They work for me.

Re: Leg Cramps

I have asthma and the meds I inhale leach potassium from my system. I'm aware of bananas and potassium pills. But, was at camp unprepared. Stupid.
Read somewhere that pickle juice works. All I had was gatoraid. Works often, but not this time.
