My Somewhat Successful Grouse Day

Today we drove around the ANF and hunted and drove around and hunted and drove around and hunted and got into some birds finally! I got a shot off at the first one that flushed, missed but it was fun....by the time I was shouldered and attempting to point my gun at it, it was 35yds out...I forgot how fast they are- especially in open cover.
First one flushed out of pines, 2nd & 3rd ones were bumped by my 1yr old Brittany out of grape vine/briar mixture. I will finally be working with a trainer after X-mas to get her on the right track...

Anyway, I'm very excited to finally find a spot that holds some- look forward to the future!
Flushing 3 in 2.5 hours was not bad.
Ugh, what a wet day- but we made the best of it.

Anybody else out today?

Re: My Somewhat Successful Grouse Day

I think it was a very good day. I haven't flushed a grouse in the last four outings. I still have a very good hunt with or without a flush. Doc in Pa.

I was pumped to get out today. I missed two of the easiest shots I ever had on grouse!!! We killed one and the dogs worked hard to get through the wet snow.

Re: My Somewhat Successful Grouse Day

You did better than me. I haven't flushed a bird the past couple times out.

Re: My Somewhat Successful Grouse Day

I'd consider that a good day too. I was out on Friday and flushed just one. I plan on getting out this Monday and maybe Tuesday if I can sneak away.
